AASPAA’s presence across Canada
|
|
Conference season went by so quickly!
AASPAA Canada organized several agents’ meetings across Canada this fall;
Charlottetown P.E.I. – Contact East / Atlantic Presenters Association
Rimouski Que. – Rencontre d’automne du ROSEQ
Saskatoon Sask.- OSAC
Montreal Que. – CINARS Biennal and Mundial
Hot and preoccupying subjects were discussed during those sessions and some very interesting leads came out of it.
Shout out to Maude Laflamme, Director of Canada Council for the Arts’ Arts Across Canada and Arts Abroad Programs, who was our special guest at CINARS agents’ meeting. She listened to the participants’ concerns, answered questions about some of CCA’s programs, and identified a few subjects that might be discussed further between AASPAA and the Art Council. We are hopeful that our relationship with CCA will grow stronger with such meetings and exchanges.
Stay tuned for new meetings in 2025!

Call for AASPAA members – CCA Juries
|
|
Agents are historically underrepresented within jury committees. AASPAA Canada will be preparing a list of the association’s members, who will be recommended to the Canadian Arts Council. We hope that this action will increase the representation of our profession within the assessment committee composition. If you want to contribute, please email us at communications@aaspaa.ca with ‘’I want to be on a jury!’’ as the subject before January 1st, 2025. You can also go on the Canadian Council for the Arts’ website and fill an Individual / Assessor profile and self-nominate yourself.

‘‘In presenting this award to Adrien Bussy, the co-general manager and director of development at José Navas/Compagnie Flak, the board of directors of Diagramme wished to recognize his exceptional role in advancing the evolution of the company. Adrien has steadfastly accompanied José Navas, while managing the organization rigorously and responsibly. His leadership was particularly crucial during the pandemic. His commitment to young people and his tireless work in promoting the vital role of development agents attest to his generosity and vision for the dance community. Finally, the jury called attention to Adrien’s remarkable contribution to increasing the visibility and impact of Quebec dance here and abroad.’’

A new (but familiar) face at AASPAA
In September 2024, Valérie Cusson took over the torch as AASPAA’s part time staff. She fills in on communications, member management, grant writing, coordination of congress agents’ meetings and other projects.
A big thanks to Olivier Parent who has filled this position with brio from May to September 2024!

In 2015, Valérie founded the Cusson Management agency where she worked as the director and main agent, supporting the development and touring of emerging and established artists in dance, theater, young audiences and other interdisciplinary forms, in several Canadian and international territories. In 2024, she announced the forthcoming closure of her agency to take on new challenges and renew her involvement in the cultural field.
Since 2021, she has sat on the Board of Directors of Danse sur les routes du Québec (the first independent agent to hold this position), and joined the Board of Directors of the FÔVE diffusion agency (director: Nicolas Filion) in 2024. From 2021 to 2024, she was a fellow in the ISPA Québec fellowship program.

AASPAA à travers le Canada
|
|
Les représentants d’AASPAA Canada ont organisé plusieurs rencontres d’agents à travers le pays au cours des derniers mois;
Charlottetown Î.-P.-É. – Contact East / Atlantic Presenters Association
Rimouski Qc – Rencontre d’automne du ROSEQ
Saskatoon Sask – OSAC
Montréal Qc – Biennale CINARS et Mundial
Hot and preoccupying subjects were discussed during those sessions and some very interesting leads came out of it.
